US President Joe Biden on Thursday launched a state of emergency, asking Americans to support increased spending on Israel and Ukraine. Speaking from the Oval Office, he said U.S. support was vital to two key allies locked in a conflict. US officials said the emergency funding requested by Biden includes a total of about $100 billion next year for Israel, Ukraine and ensuring security at the US-Mexico border. Any appropriations measure must be approved by the House and Senate. However, Republican lawmakers objected to spending on Ukraine, and the Republican-led House was without a speaker for 17 days.
